Anime Ottawa
This was the first in probably many editions of this spring anime convention. It was put on by the same folks as Ottawa Comiccon (and Montreal, and Québec Comiccons too), and as always the organization for Anime Ottawa was seamless and amazing.
This was the first time back in the booth since 2021, and before that 2019. It was awesome to see regulars return and new clients as well. I booked two weddings that weekend as well, so that was awesome.
The cover photo for this post might be my new fave - featuring Leslie and Tony as Akiha and Himeno from Chainsaw Man.
This con featured the return of the grim dark grey backdrop - I had forgotten how much I disliked it until I started taking pictures. I resolved to do something different for CAPE, two weeks later.
CAPE
My favourite convention, CAPE in Cornwall, ON is Randy and Carol Sauve's passion project. It's the best small con I've attended. Randy's roots in comics and fandom means CAPE punches above its weight in terms of guests, panels and events.
Cornwall seems to have the most cosplayers per capita of any city I've ever visited - featured cosplayers this year were, in order of placement on the con floor: anniechiedesigns, soulette_cosplay, reckless_ladycosplay and robeccleshall.
We had fun booth neighbours, saw all of our Cornwall friends, and had a great time.
To overcome the drab grey backdrop, I purchased a cheap brick wall backdrop on Amazon, and I think although it wasn't perfect, it was better than the grey backdrop. Some folks might disagree.
