It's been three weeks since a surgeon removed a 3.4 cm tumour from the upper meninges of my brain, and things are good! Since the operation, I've had ups and downs; things seem to have stabilized, with each day better than the last. Unless something big happens, this is going to be the last post on this topic.
Downs
After the operation, I started to experience seizures in my left hand and arm. My left hand would freeze up for a few minutes, followed by numbness in my left arm, going down my left ribs and into my left leg. For almost two weeks, the seizures came more often, and were getting progressively stronger. I also developed rashes on my legs and forehead (you can still see traces on the rash on my head), and my arms started to get rashy.
So I went to emergency and saw a neurologist, who recommended changing from Kepra (kind of the default drug for seizures and epilepsy), which is known to cause reactions such as rashes to Vimpat, a drug not known for causing reactions and rashes. Very quickly, the rashes started to heal and the seizures abated, although I was getting a bit of tingling in my left arm.
In the 9 days since the change in drugs, the seizure symptoms have been abating, and I haven't had any at all in almost a week. So fingers crossed.
Ups
I feel more normal every day. The staples came out 9 days after the operation, I'm able to wash my head and not use the shower seat we had bought, and I hope no more seizures will come. I'm walking every day - further each time - and I'm walking to the store to do a bit of groceries. I wear a mask whenever indoors in public spaces, and look forward to getting out more as the spring weather gets better.
